Meet Scott

Scott Matheson was 12 years old when his father, naval aviator Jack Matheson, moved the family to Hampton Roads.

He graduated from Kempsville High School in 1982 and was recruited by the University of Virginia as a scholarship athlete for the varsity football team. In 1986, he graduated from UVA with a liberal arts degree in Communications with concentrations in commerce, economics and history.

A descendant of the Reverend John Witherspoon, who was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Scott has been drawn to the political process from a very young age. He is passionate about the issues, philosophies and policies that impact people’s lives. He also enjoys studying history and current issues.

Scott has been a financial advisor for more than 16 years. In his role as a Certified Financial PlannerĀ® (CFP), he helps people manage their financial situations to realize their life goals and dreams. He abides by the CFP Board of Ethics Code. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association and serves as the Director of Government Relations for the Hampton Roads Chapter.

Very active in the community, Scott has contributed time and/or financial donations to the United Service Organizations (USO), The Up Center, Boy Scouts of America, Habitat for Humanity, Faith Works Coalition, the Federation of Virginia Food Banks, the Reading First Program, and Pop Warner Football, among others. Scott has served as a volunteer on many local, state and federal elections. He is a member of the Crystal Cathedral and was appointed to the Leadership Council by Dr. Robert Schuller.

Scott lives with his wife, Dawn, in the River Walk neighborhood of Chesapeake. They have developed deep roots and share an affinity for the people of Chesapeake and all that the city has to offer: its quality of life, historically significant sites, beautiful waterways, pristine wilderness areas, and a strong sense of neighbors caring for neighbors.
